Interview with Jelmer, our Marketing & Business Development Manager
Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am 26 years old, originating from The Hague. Recently I moved to Amsterdam after having lived in Rotterdam for about 8 years. I have a Bachelor degree in Business & Administration and a Master in Marketing Management. During my studies I did a marketing internship at a record label in Los Angeles and after my studies I continued to work in music as a social media and online marketing employee at a record label in The Netherlands, whilst having my own events company.
What led you to work at PCN?
For the past two years I have worked on my own events company full time with great joy and achievements such as partnerships, sponsorships and events in various countries throughout the world. After moving to Amsterdam I decided to put it on a lower priority and focus on my career in general. I was looking for a marketing management position in the FinTech industry, which I had interest in for about a year already. I found the position online and really enjoyed the welcoming vibe here at the office.
What made you interested in marketing?
I feel that marketing is often one of the most important backbone of any company or industry. Even though it’s sometimes forgotten, marketing, together with product, plays the most crucial role in a company’s success. Often there are many competitors out there, and it’s all about staying top-of-mind whether it’s B2B or B2C.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the fact that I have so much freedom to have input in the company and to share and execute my ideas. My role consists of marketing, event, partnerships and business development which is a perfect combination for me considering I have always enjoyed to do each of these aspects.
Finally, what are your hobbies outside of work?
I love travelling around the world, listening to the latest up-and-coming music and to go out. I also recently got interested in programming in order to create new things, so I started to follow a Python course. Besides this I try to stay up-to-date with the latest trends in blockchain and cryptocurrency, which I’m very fascinated with as well.
