Our client is an electronic payments software firm that provides payments processing solutions and services to merchants and financial institutions. The business  develops Software-as-a-Service based integrated and processor-agnostic tokenization electronic payment acceptance and data security solutions for enterprises.

About the Job

The Solutions Engineer role is to provide technical, functional and design support to the Sales Team throughout the sales cycle. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important in order to simply but accurately engage in and articulate all aspects of requirements and solutions. Experience as a sales engineer / solutions engineer involved in selling cloud / SaaS products to large enterprise clients is strongly desired.

The Solutions Engineer will display a balance of technical, functional and communication skills, along with knowledge of the payments industry and large enterprise payments workflows.

Key experience and skills:

  • Ecommerce
  • Payments
  • Security (ideally PCI DSS)
  • ERP (ideally SAP, Oracle)
  • Hybris experience is ideal (else Magento, Demandware)

Primary responsibilities in support of the sales cycle:

  • Knowledge of electronic payments acceptance, payments security, PCI DSS
  • Knowledge of ecommerce, call center and online bill payment workflows
  • Technical and functional knowledge of ecommerce as it relates to the checkout and payments aspects (for example, HTML, iframe integration and web services)
  • Knowledge of the payment functionality of large enterprise ERPs, including SAP and Oracle
  • Deliver product and scenario demonstrations
  • Comfortably communicate with large enterprise clients at senior levels on business process, functional and technical subject matter
  • Explore and document technical, business and workflow requirements
  • Identify, propose and articulate solution design options in the context of optimal and alternate solutions
  • Articulate the functional and technical aspects of product solutions
  • Assist the sales person with Q&A related to an opportunity including support for RFP and RFI responses
  • Attend remote and in-person meetings and technical sessions
  • Internally document technical and project related requirements for use by professional services to generate SOWs
  • Create solution diagrams and workflow diagrams

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Interact with key internal teams such as Product Management and Marketing
  • Assist with initiatives to identify and improve efficiency and efficacy of all aspects of the Solutions Engineering team
  • Assist with build-out of internal and external collateral
  • Assist with training and knowledge transfer to sales

Accountabilities and Performance Measures

  • Achieve team-assigned productivity and timeliness measures
  • Complete required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame

About you


  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience in engineering, information systems, or business administration
  •  5+ years of payments industry experience, including two or more years in sales engineering or consulting
  • Proven technology skills, including web technologies (in order to architect solutions for web site checkout/payments and cross system integrations)
  • Outstanding interpersonal abilities, and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Positive, up-beat, service-oriented personality
  • Willingness to travel (typically 30%-50%, but up to 75% or more at times)
